From the invisible to the visible world and back

Nanotechnology seems to promise more and more, and that’s why the last years the experts have put their attention in it and have been trying to develop new techniques using elements with a size between 1 and 100 nanometers.

Today I have chosen to talk about nanobots, a non-developed (until today, but there are plans to materialize them in the future) nanomachines. As its name says, they are minuscule robots that, among other things, could execute calculations, adapt to different external stimulus such as heat, light, sounds, work in groups and even repair or multiply themselves. They could also, thanks to its size, help the assembly of molecules, and that’s the reason why nanobots are an interesting possible instrument for the pharmaceutical area. Can you imagine such a small device that could help the active substance of a medicament to be assembled correctly? Or an explorative nanorobot that could help to diagnose different kinds of diseases, even cure them by destroying the pathogen or troubled cellule?

I honestly learned about them today, and at the beginning I thought it was a very cute idea to create tiny robots, but then I read more and discovered that they could be very helpful for medicine treatments. I hope technology can bring the elements to build accessible nanorobots soon!.

  1. think that a few years ago, nanobots were believed to be something very far away, it shows how much advanced science
